where do credit card companies get your address from?

I just got married and moved from my old address. I have changed my address with the DMV but is this enough so that credit card companies wont send offers to my old address? I have had my credit card stolen before so im a bit paranoid. If not where do i call to change my address so that nothing gets mailed to my old address?

  1. Any forms or applications you fill out - including utilities, rent or mortgages.
  2. That is not enough. If u want to get ur mail to ur new address go on usps.com for the us. You have to call every credit card company individullay to chage the address. You can get the # from the back of the card, 411 info, online, or a statement. U should immediatley cancel a card if it has been stolen.
  3. There are several ways that they get your address, once you file a change of address with the Post Office it becomes public record. They also buy credit reports from the three credit bureaus and mail out pre-approved offers to anyone that even remotely meets their requirements. If you want to make sure you do not receive this kind of offer go to www.dmaconsumers.org and opt out of the national mailing list. This will remove your name for 5-years.
  4. From the credit bureaus themselves most of the time. Unless you "OPT OUT" of your profile being released the bureaus release credit profiles with names and addresses to qualified companies. They are not allowed to see your credit report, but can see a score range on you and decide whether to send you a card offer or something of the sort. As stated above, you can contact the bureaus and have them take your name off of these list.
  5. Go to the US Post Office and fill out a change-of-address form. You can do it online with a credit card for $1..with the cost of gas, that might be cheaper.
