goodwill letters to old credit card companies in hopes of improving credit score?

I was thinking about writing goodwill letters to CC companies that has impacted my credit score in a negative way. I was delinquent on these accounts and that's what has hurt my score. I'm not even sure if they would still have my information but i have my credit card number on my credit report. So before i go thru all the trouble in contacting these places, is it going to be worth it?

  1. if you do not owe than anything it can not hurt and the most it will cost you is 41 cents!!!
  2. It isn't going to be worth it. Once the information is on there it stays for up to 7 years. They will just look at the letter and toss it out. They may look into your account to make sure you don't owe anymore and that could open up a whole can of worms.
  3. What do you mean by goodwill letters? If you mean paying the bill, yes, it will be worth it. If you mean saying hi and I'm sorry I didn't pay you, forget it! All they care about is getting paid, and yes, they WILL have all your info!!!
  4. Save your energy for making money and taking care of your current business. The credit reporting company will expunge your data after a time and any correspondence to the debt holding company will only reset the time of last correspondence. After 3 years or so they will be back to you with new offers of credit. After 7 years your old record will be cleared. Let sleeping dogs . . . sleep.
  5. I wouldn't waste your money on a stamp because credit companies are run by accountants that have no souls and would probably have a good laugh before consigning your letter to the nearest shredder.
  6. What exactly do you mean by a "goodwill letter"?
  7. No...don't waste the time...In a different time and place....like a country bank in America in the 1950s....such an effort might have been worth it....Now it's all by the numbers...
  8. don't even mess with them unless you plan to pay. you need to read about how to deal with collection agencies and credit card companies - a lot of info online.
