Government Debt Consolidation Loans Questions

Where can I find debt consolidation for "private" student loans? I am a young professional that is over my head in private student loan debt and credit card debt. I have found several companies willing to help me with my credit card debt but no luck with the private student loan debt because it is not considered "secured" debt. My interest rates on these loans are over 20% making my monthly payments total $700. Because I have credit problems in the past I am considered a "high risk" thus unable to get the banks to reduce my interest rate. Does anyone know of an agency that is willing to help people with "private" student loan debt? I am looking for some type of debt consolidation that would reduce my interest rate and lower my monthly payment. Please keep in mind these are private student loans not government loans. Thanks in advance!

How do I find information on government grants and/or government loans for starting up a new business? I am in need of funding for business equipment and software to start my own business from home. I have seen commercials regarding government money being out there and available for all sorts of reasons like, business start up, buying a home, renovations, debt consolidations, etc. But, these commericals are advertised by people who want a fee for the information on these grants and loans. I have always figure that if they could find this information then I should be able to also. And, I have looked on and off for awhile now and can only find information if I pay a fee to someone else. Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone actually received one of these loans and/or grants?
I need some recommendations of places where one can get a loan for debt consolidation and education? With bad credit and being unemployed I need a loan to pay off a small amount of debt and a tuition for a 6 month education course so I can put myself in a better employment situation. Home equity loan for a rental property located in Morristown, New Jersey. Purpose: debt consolidation? I am a landed immigrant in Canada, living in Edmonton. I have tried to get a home equity loan on my property located in Morristown, New Jersey. I have approached several major US-based lenders. I have been refused the loan because I am not a US permanent resident. I need your help to locate a financial institution (American or foreign) willing to work with me. I have an acceptable US credit score and my job in Canada is steady and well paid (I work for the Government of the province of Alberta). I want to use the funds to consolidate my debt. Thank you for your assistance!
Why does the government not control the interest rates and charges the credit card companies charge? Credit card companies are allowed to increase interest rates to over 30% if they want. They also determine that the consumer is a poor credit risk if they have high balances on loans without looking at the fact that payments have been made in excess of amount billed and on a timely basis. It also seems that when a person nears retirement age, most companies increase the interest rate to the extent that it cannot be paid by a person on a reduced budget. This forces the older person to either go to a debt consolidation company (which charges for their services also) or quit paying, with the risk of loosing any assets that they have accumulated. Either way, embarrassing, harrassing phone calls have to be dealt with. A younger person with no home can file bankruptcy and they have no permanent consequence to this action. I am 62, have paid my bills all my life and now all interest rates increased and I can't make payments, even with debt consolidation. HELP-PUT LIMITS ON CREDIT CO.
Question about consolidation of defaulted student loans...? I took out a student loan 5 years ago to go to college. Defaulted on loan (financially unable to repay). Collector for Texas Guaranteed Student Loans Blah Blah called me yesterday, and guided me through the steps for the online application for consolidating the defaulted loan here: www.loanconsolidation.ed.gov He said it is a government program set up to give people who have defaulted on student loans a second chance. Gentleman told me that if my applications is approved (and it probably will be), when it is processed, the record will show that I no longer owe money on a student loan. Question is: once the record reflects my new situation (loan consolidated, debt no longer shows up, etc.), can I apply for and get another student loan?
I have about $12,000 in debt.....? including $4600 in federal student loans. Where can I get like a government grant to reduce these debts? or where can I go so i can get some debt consolidation?
Loan Consolidation: My Situation and the Air Force? Howdy. After several years of attending different universities and accruing massive debt with still two years until a degree, I am now in the process of joining the Air Force so that I can get a career started and start paying off my loans. My private loans have totaled up to 40K, and the government/state loans have totaled up to 15K. I am obviously looking into consolidating these loans since I am currently paying four different lenders. My credit is great so I am not worried about that. How should I go about approaching my situation and which lenders would you recommend? I am also considering going back to college several years into the Air Force, which I will be able to get paid for by the military though. Will this cause any problems? Hopefully I can get some good info so I can research your suggestions further. Thanks
UK debt- one creditor £10k, help? I've been trying to pay off my debt and have successfully reduced it from £15k to just under £10k now. Unfortunately, i also became pregnant, and am due to be out of work shortly (i only have a temp contract so no maternity payments, only government ones). My debt is owed to just one sole creditor (was a consolidation loan i took out 2 years ago). I will be living on benefits for a time after my baby is born. What can i do?! My debt is not huge enough for IVA, yet i will have no income.. what can they demand/do to me if i cannot pay? Is it a more difficlt situation because there is only the one creditor?
I need the names of some trustworthy companies that offer Debt Management Plans? I will not qualify for government grants. I cannot get another consolidation loan. I do not want to use a debt negotiation service. My credit is good right now. I have paid all my bills at or above the minimum on time for over 7 years, and any blips on my credit have just recently "dropped off" my credit report. However, I am struggling, and things are about to get worse for me, and very soon I will start to be in the negative. I need help that won't ruin my credit score I have worked so hard to repair. If you have used a Debt Management Program and did not have to pay any additional fees, nor make any payments until all of your creditors accepted you into the program, please pass the name along to me.

Anyone other than Wellsfargo & Chase still doing private student loan consolidations?.? I have a problem here and I’m hoping someone can give me some direction. I have about $50k in government backed (sub & unsub) student loans I used for my bachelors and masters. Those are now coming due and I’ve got an application into the US Dept of Ed to get a federal consolidation on them. I think that will be fine and roll into one manageable payment. BUT I also have another $70k in private education loans with a few different lenders that I needed to make up the gaps over the years. I need to consolidate those but it seems like not nearly as many lenders are doing private consolidations anymore??? I know why, the economy and credit conditions. Chase and Wellsfargo are still but I tried and they both denied me saying my debt to income ratio is bad. I have like a 750 credit score and about $60k a year in income and beyond these education loans though I have a small under $15k car loan and that’s it, no credit cards?? The several different payments spread out on these private ones are high and killing me. Does anyone know what I can do or where I can turn?? It looks like the Dept of Ed won't touch private loans either, tried that avenue...Thanks.

My GF used her moms credit card to pay for a new furnace when old one broke. Now we cant afford payments.? Basically, it was the middle of winter in Minnesota and with 5$ to our name, the furnace broke. We applied for a few government sponsored loans (SEMCAC I believe was one) and were rejected from each. Her mom then said my GF had to buy central air and consolidate her other CC's on a single card if she was to borrow the money, so she did (against my urgings). So here we are a year later, saddled with a 500$ min payment on a CC that was 4% but is now 25% because the introductory rate ended right around the time the company decided to hike most rates across the board. Between student loans, mortgage (we are trying to sell the house, but it's been up for almost 10 months and won't sell), credit card, and cost of living we are BEYOND our limit. We cannot take the debt from her mom back onto ourselves to enter into some sort of debt management program, because of all the aforementioned issues. Beyond this, she has racked up quite a debt herself, some $50k or so. She is at the end of her line as well. She will not try for some sort of consolidation or bankruptcy options. Any ideas on what to do? Wanted to add a few things. 1. GF is making almost all of the payments since I am currently in college. 2. Can't file for bankruptcy when the card is in her moms name not hers.
Credit Problems? I have more than horrible credit, including a bankruptcy chapter 7, collection accounts, charge offs etc. I have it all pretty much. The government is even garnishing my wages for student loans. Why do I get flyers from banks and financial institutions telling me that they can help me regardless of my credit history, and when I can the first question is: "How good is your credit?" I'm trying to pay off my debts but I want to get a loan and just have one payment. Consolidation companies can't help, bank don't want to lend, I can't get government help cuz they are already garnishing my wages, and credit card would only give me about $500 credit line. I owe way more than that. I owe a total of $30K. Any suggestions as to what my options are.
